Calming down from the nail-biting anticipation of set four, everyone is scrambling to find their new favorite list to play. Whether it be a new take on Yeti Aggro, Wisp Killers, Mono-Time, or just finding the new crests a home in your old decks to help with the power base. One thing I’m always looking for, when a set comes out, is wha are all of the combos? I just can’t get enough of combo decks! Everyone is currently trying out ways to break First Flame, (this card is so cool), but I have a feeling that’s not going to be the only good combo deck out there…

You may ask; “Sifu, how can such a list be played on ladder with cards in the meta like In Cold Blood and Hooru Pacifier?”
Ah yes, young grasshopper, it is true that In Cold Blood strips the Icaria’s from our deck, and the owl stops some of our combo, but you may be too young to know the ways of a new set – and what makes people forget the old ways. They are in too much of a hurry to embrace the new, clearing a path for us to bring an old favorite out from the shadows.
Ergo this should be fine until things settle down on the ladder and we figure out what we need to tweak.
So back to the cards in the list! A lot of things have moved and changed to bring forth the new market mechanic.
We no longer play Rise to the Challenge, Amber Acolyte, or even the Soulfire Drake. While the Auralian Merchants help with the loss of Rise, it also keeps us hitting our power drops with the Praxis Banner we have in the market, and ramps out our big bombs. One card that I wasn’t sure on but after testing fell in love with was Bulletshaper:
I’m still not sure if four is the right number, even though they do allow for some pretty broken plays that your opponent might not see coming. Being able to discard spells that are not relevant while powering out a bomb is huge, and by discarding Privilege of Rank, you still get two justice from the deck. I haven’t decided on how many Answer the Call’s we should play as the card feels so powerful most of the time.
If we end up cutting some number of them, I would like to see Soulfire Drake come back as a two of in the list. Last but not least with the new Crest of Glory and Crest of Progress this deck finally has a stable power base.
For right now, this feels like a good starting list for the FOA version of Divining Rod. Hopefully you have as much fun playing this spicy list as I did!
