Learn how TRS’ MTG player ArbitraryArmor tuned Jund Food to take him through to the PT!
On the Friday of MagicFest Portland, I watched my teammate Devon (@arbitraryarmor) take down the Standard PTQ with Jund Sacrifice. At some point that afternoon, I jokingly told him that I’d make it back-to-back Team Rankstar wins the next day in the Modern PTQ. My expectations for the weekend were relatively low given how busy I was leading up to the event; with final exams looming over the month, I decided to trust in my experience and sleeve up Elves,
I hope everyone had/has/will have a wonderful holiday! It’s the season for fun and relaxation, and I can think of no better way to relax and have fun than to play really long games of Eternal. Today’s deck may not take you to the top of ladder, but I’ve had a blast gunning down everything with Blitrok + Vara’s Sanctum: 4 Seek Power (Set1 #408)2 Eremot’s Designs (Set1007 #9)4 Fenris Nightshade (Set4 #204)4 Lightning Strike (Set1 #197)4 Vara’s Favor (Set0
Welcome to Lights Out, my old article series revitalized and newly hosted by Team Rankstar! I wrote weekly or biweekly articles throughout 2017 and most of 2018, but website changes and life events kept me out of the article-writing game for most of 2019. Now I’m back, though – expect to see plenty more of me in 2020! If you are not familiar with my work, you can check submission history on reddit or my youtube channel. I’m most known for Xenan decks, Scrappy Hour and various other grindy midrange and control decks.
Hello, everyone! Once again, I am Nathan “noverb” Overbay. Today I want to showcase the deck that most of Team Rankstar brought to the November 2019 ECQ: Promises by Firelight. The deck performed rather well for a lot of us and I wanted to walk you through the build step by step.

This guest piece was submitted Ninjela. Hey folks! Did you enjoy the recent ECQ? Are you feeling like you didn’t see quite enough Cultists to satisfy? Want to know how you can get in on that Xenan action for this weekend’s Melee event? Well, you’re in luck! Those cultists carried me to a record of 24-4 in Stage 1 of the ECQ, locking in the #2 spot in the top 64, and I’m here to tell you all about them:

October! What a fun month…. trick-or-treaters, spoopy memes, budget decks…. October truly has it all. Let’s sit down to enjoy some candy and talk about what this article is. Previously, the idea behind these decks was to present options for new players looking to jump into ladder play and bypass the “finding out what cards to use to start winning hard early” phase of learning the game. Personally, I’m not a free-to-play player, nor am I anywhere near it. I

Hello TEPPEN community! Coming at you from Team Rankstar and myself, iowa, is Season 3 meta decks and tier list. This will be the most important article in TEPPEN history. This is the third installment of the Building Better Starters series, and today we’re focusing on Green and Purple and getting Crafty!
Mythgard Closed Beta came out this week and Team Rankstar was all over it! We are incredibly honored to be able to participate in the launch to the extent that we did, and have things in store for the Open Beta launch as well! Not to mention, our Arena Rumble event has been going off with a bang, and we are very excited for the finals coming up soon! We have a lot more events being announced in the coming
In this video I give a deck tech and then play 5 games with a Kennadin list given to me by LightsOutAce. Kennadin is a deck built around Combustion Cell and Tribute cards. Please note that this video was recorded before Garden of Omens was released. I believe it is likely incorrect to play zero copies of Garden, but I don’t have an updated list to share with you.
All I have to say is don’t let your memes be dreams I guess. I’m not sure how many times I tweeted with the hashtag #freeSFM, but it happened at least once a month for a long time. I mentioned in my two previous articles that the modern format needed a change, and I assumed that The R&D team would simply ban Hogaak, and let the format go from there. What we got was, well….more than that: PIC HOGAAK BAN
INTRO When I read the patch notes and saw the changes I immediately knew that Francesca is going to be really great in this update. As I woke up the next day I was impatiently waiting for the patch to download. Then I jumped to game and created this deck I have been making in my mind before sleep. So here is my creation which I’m really proud of and have a lot of fun playing! THE DECKGUIDE MULLIGANS In
Hello godlings, and welcome to the second installment in my Building Better Starters series! If you’re new here, you missed the [RB] Dire Starter primer, so go check that out! To the rest of you, this article is going to be about two more factions – for variety’s sake as much as anything. And because they’re kind of the next two factions we’re introduced to as new players running through the Story. Yep, you guessed it, today we’re going to
I was trapped in a loop. I wanted to play big powerful minions and I wanted to play Green. The constantly optimizing part inside of me said, “You have to play Necromantic then”. But Disk of Circadia Hopeless Necromantic builds have been explored in many variants to great success, so I felt I wouldn’t be able to break new ground in a so thoroughly charted territory. Clearly I could just wait until turn 8 to play an Indrik Beast from
Hello godlings, and welcome to my first Mythgard article for Team Rankstar! Some of you may remember me from SolForge (if so, bravo!), but even if you don’t, let me just tell you that I tend to approach my CCGs in an unorthodox manner. I am a brewer. And I brew jank. I love to brew decks that many might consider odd, or strange, and in part that’s because I enjoy looking at all the different interactions all the cards
Hey everyone! My name is Tim, otherwise known Tchamber5 in the queues! Today, I wanted to talk about some decks that are not only super sweet, but that I think will be very competitively viable after the Banned and restricted announcement on the 26th of August. What decks could I be talking about? Snow decks of course! I have been really impressed with the subtly excellent synergies that were released with Modern Horizons. Namely, there are a few key pay-off
Trials of Grodov wasn’t the most well received set to be released in recent months. It didn’t include a Player vs AI campaign to fight through. This was a disappointment to some, while it was a welcome surprise to others, myself included. I didn’t really enjoy having to rip through the campaigns just to get my cards. I never took the time to enjoy the duels, it was always a question of how could I unlock them faster. My suggestion
This past weekend, MTG: Arena held a Mythic Championship Qualifier Weekend (further referred as MCQW) which was comprised of all players who finished top 1,000 during the War of the Spark season (past 3 months) in either Constructed or Limited. I was able to play in this event after qualifying in June through Constructed playing mostly Bant Ramp, but today I’d like to talk about the deck I went 6-2 with this weekend, almost making day 2: Bant Scapeshift. About

Erobert here and we’re back again this week with Fires of Creation! Settling more into Purple, and discerning what sorts of strategies emerge from this new card pool, I’m working out a deck in mono Purple. Relying only on Purple’s distinctive features, items and large minions, this deck seeks to make the most of high gem costs and the virtual card advantage of colorless items and temporary mana. Let’s get started! Virtual Card Advantage As we have discussed in previous
