Welcome to Meta Monday, presented by NotoriousGHP.
The following people made this article possible:
As always, if you want to contribute data and have your name featured in the article, make sure to submit your games to this form. If your opponent is on an off-meta deck, please specify some pieces to their deck. If you have a large data set (Over 50 games), you can DM it to /u/NotoriousGHP on Reddit, [TRS] NotoriousGHP#6765 on discord, or email me at [email protected]
The quality of the metagame breakdown depends entirely on how many submissions we get. These are our significant thresholds:
0-222 games – I am not confident in the data we have, the quality of analysis will deteriorate greatly.
222-285 games – I am confident in the value of our data, the articles will function perfectly normal in capacity.
286-399 games – The metagame breakdown will include any tier 4 lists I have enough data for.
400+ games – The sample size is big enough for more precise rounding.
This week we have a sample of 440 games.
Meta Game breakdown:
Tier 0: – This deck defines the entire meta game
Tier 1: – A sizable minority of ladder games will be against these lists
Tier 1.5: – Meta defining lists that are not quite dominant to be tier 1
Tier 2: – Popular decks that you should keep in mind
Tier 2.5: – Relevant decks that are less popular then tier 2 decks
Tier 3: – Obscure decks that you’re fairly unlikely to run across:
Tier 4: – Everything below tier 3
Skycrag Aggro: 8.64%
Rakano Midrange: 8.41%
Argenport Midrange: 6.14%
Feln Control: 5.91%
Jennev Peaks: 5.91%
Combrei Midrange: 4.55%
Praxis Midrange: 4.1%
Hooru Midrange: 3.64%
Mono Fire: 3.2%
Ixtun Peaks: 3%
Feln Midrange: 3%
Hooru Control: 3%
Diogo Combo: 1.82%
Winchest Midrange: 1.6%
Xenan Midrange: 1.36%
FTJ Alessi: 1.36%
Breaking in Dire Wolf’s newest balance patch, I can once again celebrate not having to claim Rakano is the best deck in the format. With Privilege of Rank being demolished and Sediti getting adjusted, Rakano has dropped over 9% this week in popularity. This is definitely due to the balance patch, alongside there being no events to test for currently. I do believe Rakano is still very good, but may not be the clear best deck anymore, and likely needs some redesigning. Joining Rakano in tier 1.5, we see Stonescar standing strong as my current pick for the best deck, alongside new comers Argenport Midrange and soon to be buffed Skycrag Aggro. I personally have seen very little Argenport, but its a strong Sediti deck that will certainly get better with the upcoming expansion. I am super excited for both Skycrag and Argenport to get those Insignias.
Moving into tier 2 we see Praxis Midrange staying in place, but we see a massive surge in Feln Control and Jennev Peaks. After both having a solid performance in the World Championship, alongside not receiving any balance changes these decks seem prime to be big players in the Metagame moving forward. I think both of these archetypes have enough powerful interaction coupled with strong finishers to allow for more controlling archetypes to exist currently.
Closing out this week, we see the usually mix of tier 3+ decks, ranging from FJS to rats to Diogo Combo. These decks all continue to be solid choices for the ladder, but are often out classed generally speaking or are designed to target very specific portions of the meta game. I do think many of these decks are only one or two cards away from greatness, and i am very excited to try Xenan moving forward.
Sadly, I won’t be able to discuss any Eternal Tournament results this week, as the ECL is on hiatus and the ETS has officially retired. As mentioned on Reddit, Team Rankstar may be looking into creating a new tournament series, and Dire Wolf Digital has announced there will be a expedition format during the first weekend of August, so if you’d like something to prepare for, come to the land of expedition.
Due to the lack of tournaments, I thought I’d discuss the upcoming expansion, but really, let’s talk about Insignias. The 5 Insignias we received in Dark Frontier were in my opinion, the strongest cards from the set and have truly transformed the meta game. Having access to 16 dual power’s is crazy good, and allow for 2 faction decks to have as much or more power level then 3 faction decks, yet having a more consistent power base. We saw Stonescar and Hooru especially profit from these Insignias, and Rakano Midrange even thrived without one (Although some consider Bulletshaper close enough). With Xenan, Rakano, Argenport, Skycrag and Elysian all gaining a Insignia this week, expect a drastic shakeup in the meta game. I’ve personally heavily considered registering both Argenport and Skycrag decks for recent tournaments, but choose Insignia decks instead, and i think both of these faction combinations will thrive now that they have there ideal power base. Xenan will also heavily gain from this, mostly due to its desire to have undepleted power yet account for some early heavily influence requires, and the Insignia will help with all of this.
I can’t state how insane Insignias are, and even if the rest of the cards in the upcoming expansion are completely unplayable, expect a drastically different report next Monday as we talk about the newest kids on the block. My prediction now, is that Skycrag Aggro will be the most popular deck, and it will be at least 15% of the report.
That’s all for this week’s installment of Meta Monday and thanks for reading. I hope you enjoyed! This week was on the shorter side, mostly due to the lack of things i can fully cover without seeing what The Trials Of Grodov brings to the meta game.
