Meta Monday: Invitational Revitalizes Classic Decks

Welcome to Meta Monday! There has been a balance patch and an invitational tournament in the past week so we have plenty to cover. Balance Changes First lets take a look at the balance changes. The nerfs were focused on Praxis Tokens and Combrei Alessi. Teacher of Humility’s infiltrate ability now increases the cost of additional drawn cards by 2 instead of 3. I think this is a step in the right direction, but I would have liked to see

Meta Monday – In the Shadow of Alessi

Greetings, fellow Eternal players! It’s that time of the week again—Meta Monday here at Team Rankstar! We will be going over the top eight decks of this weekend’s ETS, some thoughts and predictions for ladder, and a link to a brilliant video from ThatResolves with an associated decklist. So to preface this week’s article, there’s a great quote from my fellow Team Rankstar member NotoriousGHP, “I figured out how I should have won the last match. Play more Alessis’.” He

(Here’s the 1st one I made for here if anyone is curious), we’ll see what Shadowlog has stored around this time! With the mini-expansion casting it’s shadow upon us (and with Blood probably still being super underwhelming in Rotation even after it, seriously, what’s the deal with that legendary card??), this time there seem to be…quite some weird developments in the meta,

Meta Monday – Diversity

On last week’s Meta Monday, we analyzed what appeared to be an Alessi driven metagame, and the ramifications of the balance patch. Fast forward to this week, and 0 copies of Alessi broke into this week’s ETS top 8. Today, I’ll be breaking down this weeks top 8, trends and what to expect in the upcoming metagame. One of the game’s very best, Childroland, took down these week’s ETS with a interesting take on Elysian Midrange. This list features many

Meta Monday – Post Balance Patch

Last week, we received the first balance patch since the release of The Fall of Argenport, and it definitely shook things up in the fourth ETS of season 3. Although there were similar themes among decks, 8 different approaches to archetypes made up our top 8 this week. This top 8 was made up of 2 Icaria control decks, Praxis tokens, Charge rod, the apparently not dead TJP Berserk, Xenan midrange and 2 different Alessi Control decks. Mouche took down

Chalice has been a popular control deck in the game for some time. It’s ability to clog up the board with small creatures, reset when things get too out of hand, and generate card advantage from buffing it’s board state is a force to be reckoned with. The deck is fairly low to the ground and inexpensive, so accessible to newer players, or players wanting to try out control. However it rewards format knowledge and tight play more so than most
